Our approach to Couples Therapy in Washington

You’ve found yourself in the dreaded stage of marriage that you always said you would not have with your partner. Date nights are all about the logistics–which kid has what activity and where, venting about your co-workers, complaining about how you do not get out as much together anymore, and pointing the finger at one another as the one to blame.

At home, the pile of laundry becomes a huge fight, you relax in different rooms, and you take turns saying “I’m too tired for sex tonight.” What once used to be both of your safe-haven feels more like a space you want to spend time away from.

The expectations, obligations, and needs to make your life dreams come true are impacting the ability to do it happily and connectedly with your partner.

What if date nights were the two of you dating, having fun, and adventuring together? What if you could learn how to communicate more effectively and that resulted in fewer arguments? What if what you have been working so hard for all these years–the family, the home, the career–all felt manageable?

We can help you achieve all of those. Our team of providers are skilled in helping you navigate the challenges of life in a connected manner, discover the ability to communicate honestly and openly and make your life dreams come true with joy and excitement.

Couples Therapy FAQ’s

1. Do you take insurance?

We do not. Most insurances do not cover couples counseling which is why we are not in-network with insurance plans. When the insurance company does say they cover couples counseling, what they want is for our team to diagnose one of you as the identified patient. As a team, we utilize the code Z63.0 Problems in Relationship with Spouse or Partner. We do work with a company called Mentaya that helps submit claims on your behalf for a small fee and advocates for reimbursement for you.

2. How long is the duration of couples counseling?

This is dependent on each couple. On average couples are with us from 6 months to a year as a focus we have is not for a quick change, but sustainable change. Our goal is to help you change your relationship with skills that can be replicated for a lifetime. This takes time and each relationship has different components to work on that impact the duration.

3. Will you tell us we should not be together?

We will not. Our role as the therapist is to help you see the patterns and themes that are occurring in your relationship and provide you skills and guidance to change them for the good. Some couples counseling experiences do involve partners deciding they do not want to continue the relationship, but it will not be our decision-it will be yours.
